Did she just use the words “tedious” and “holiday” in the same sentence?
Yes, I did!
Sure, the holiday season can be a really fun time – spending time and re-connecting with family, filling your home with holiday cheer, Christmas parties and gift exchanges, etc. However, if I’m being honest, sometimes the preparation for all of this holiday fun can be really…well…tedious!
In no particular order, I would have to say my top 5 most tedious holiday tasks are as follows:
- Cleaning the house to prepare for house guests (Actually, this really is #1)
- Putting up the Christmas tree and lights (This is way more fun for the kids nowadays)
- Wrapping gifts (Yes, it gets boring after a while)
- Sealing and stamping Christmas cards (*Sigh*…why do we have so many family members and friends?)
- And baking cookies (Really, more like waiting for them to bake)
Did I miss any?
Well, thankfully, this year I have some help getting through these tasks and adding a little fun to them. I purchased the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Core Prime from my local Walmart, which is sure to help me Rock out the Holidays this year. Plus, thanks to the $50 Monthly T-Mobile Simple Choice™ prepaid plan, I don’t have to worry about high streaming costs and data limits. An included feature of the Simple Choice™ plans is what’s called “Music Freedom,” allowing users to stream and listen to as much music as you want from any music service you want for NO EXTRA CHARGE and NO LIMITS! You can select from hundreds of music sources –Spotify, Pandora, I Heart Radio, iTunes, Radical.FM – just to name a few!
So how does this “Music Freedom” help us rock the holidays? Check out these 5 ways to add some fun to even the most tedious holiday tasks:
Create your Holiday Music Playlist
I don’t know about you, but I love some good Christmas music! The first thing to do to add some fun to these tedious holiday tasks is to create a kick butt, rockin’ holiday music playlist. This will be your best friend while tackling just about every chore – from cleaning up the house to trimming the tree to wrapping presents. Plus, even after all of the holiday pre-work is done, attach some speakers to the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime phone and use this playlist as background music to your upcoming Christmas dinner!
Take Frequent Dance Breaks
You know how in the musicals, people are in the middle of an everyday activity and all of a sudden just break out in a song and dance? Yeah…that’s us! I get the girls to join me in the pre-holiday cleaning and try to keep it as fun as possible for them (and me). The KidsBop channel on Pandora always does the trick. Then, I throw them a complete loop when a fun dance song comes on and, in the middle of cleaning, I yell, “Dance Break!” and make them drop everything and dance. That’s when the fun times start rolling in as we’re all just whipping and nae nae-ing around the kitchen. Don’t dance too hard though – remember you still have cleaning to get back to.
Name that tune – Christmas Music edition
While there are a few actual “name that tune game” apps in Google Play, you can get the game going through numerous streaming services at any time to help get through some tedious holiday tasks. I simply revisit that Christmas music playlist I’ve already created. Then, when the family’s all together wrapping presents or stamping Christmas card envelopes, we each take turns playing a snippet of a Christmas song for everyone to try and guess the name of. My oldest daughter’s actually really good at this game!
Throw in some dancing games on your downtime
Some of the tedious holiday tasks leave you with a little downtime to fill. For example, a batch of holiday cookies from scratch could include a few minutes in the fridge to set, 10 minutes to bake, plus another few minutes to cool. A fun dancing game we love to play during this downtown – I have no actual name for it – but it goes like this:
1. Player 1 does a single dance move
2. Player 2 repeats the previous dance move and does a new dance move
3. Player 3 repeats the previous 2 dance moves and adds a new dance move
4. Repeat this pattern with each player and continue in a circle. Eventually, there’ll be too many dance moves to remember and the person who forgets one of the previous dance moves exits the game. Last man standing wins.
Enjoy some “me and my music” time
Unfortunately, some of the most tedious holiday tasks aren’t exactly a team effort. For those tasks that you’re left to conquer solo, put on your favorite music source -Pandora, I Heart Radio, iTunes, whatever! Slap on some headphones to help the time go by a little quicker.
Again, with the Music Freedom I get with the Simple Choice™ plan, we can continue to stream dance music in the background and the fun doesn’t have to end even when the work is done. If you’re interested in picking up one these toys for the holiday, you can find the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime at your local Walmart in the electronics section or online!

Stream as much as you want from any service? I love that!
Me too! My goal is to try out more of them finally.
for me, it would have to be the music that would get me and keep me going 🙂
I’ve been up all night baking cookies for the kids’ schools and I couldn’t have made it without some music!

It’s fun. My cousins and I played it when we were kids and also on long trips.
A nice way to increase a child’s music knowledge and in return make them fall in love with music more. That’s a nice gift!
