True story:
My kids have to wear uniforms to school and it’s actually been like this since preschool. When my youngest daughter Samara started school, she pretty much rebelled against uniforms…like from the beginning. It was big sister Leila’s her first day of Kindergarten and Samara’s first day of Pre-k 3. I got both of the girls ready for school – uniform, stockings, shoes, etc. We were just about ready to leave the house. Leila was standing by the door and I had to call Samara downstairs since for some reason, she’d run back to her room after breakfast. Well, down she came, out of her uniform and into – wait for it – her bathing suit!!! Bathing suit, flip flops, goggles around her neck…the whole nine. OMG!
I was furious at the time, but it’s beyond hilarious now thinking about how confident this child was thinking I was going to just let her go to school in a bathing suit like it was a perfectly normal thing! What was she thinking??!!
Leila’s form of rebellion was a little less outrageous thankfully, but she’d still try to get away with some colorful socks and accessories to personalize her look just a little bit.
I have to admit, can be huge relief for me not having to worry about what they’re gonna wear every day or better yet, trying to approve their outfits for the day. However, I know it’s also really important for them to express their personal styles from time to time and I’m all for it. With the exception of wearing a swimsuit to school, of course.
So now, I love that a lot of uniform schools also give kids the chance to have “Casual Fridays” where the kids can dress out of uniform and my kids LIVE for this!
