During summer break, I can be lot more hands on in making sure my kids are eating well and getting the nutrients they need. It’s much harder to keep track of this once they’re back in school since, as far as I can recall, there’s no lunchroom police making sure your kids eat their fruits and vegetables every day. Therefore, it becomes even more important to add a good multivitamin to your child’s diet as part of their back to school routine.
With that said, not all multivitamins are the same. As much time as I spend researching the right vitamins to take for myself, we have to do the same for our children. We’ve recently started using Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Multivitamins, which gives me some comfort in knowing that they are getting the nutrients they need from a brand we like and trust. They contain 12 essential nutrients for age-specific nutritional support, including vitamins A, C, D and E, B vitamins, and minerals like iodine and zinc – all of which my children need as part of a healthy diet.

Here are some tips on how to find the best multivitamin for kids:
Talk to Your Children’s Doctor
The first thing you want to do is talk to your children’s doctor about your kids’ needs. Their doctor will be able to tell you what to look for based on your children’s health. For example, if your child is deficient in any essential nutrient, your doctor will give you some pointers as far as things to look for in a multivitamin. Most importantly, your doctor can also tell you which vitamins to avoid.
Choose a Vitamin Brand You Can Trust
Once you have an idea of which vitamins are best for your kids, you want to make sure to find a brand that is well known for higher quality standards. It’s not commonly known that some vitamin brands will skimp on or even skip some key ingredients in their multivitamins, which is completely unacceptable. I’ve used Nature Made® vitamins since I was pregnant with my oldest and have found that they put forth the extra effort toward putting out quality products with all of the vitamins they make. Bottom line: find a brand that takes your child’s nutrition as serious as you do!
Keep It Natural
Once again, it’s important to be particularly picky when it comes to the ingredients in both yours or your children’s vitamins. You want to choose a vitamin that uses natural ingredients and not synthetics. Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Multivitamins contain all natural fruit flavors, colors derived from natural sources, no synthetic dyes, no preservatives or yeast, AND are gluten free. The last thing you want is to give your kids vitamins that contain questionable ingredients, so be sure to check the labels before choosing a multivitamin for your child.
Choose a Multivitamin Your Kids Will Love
Last, but not least, if you’re going to expect your child to take a daily multivitamin or to successfully start a lifetime of healthy habits, you have to give them something they like! Make sure you find a multivitamin with yummy flavors that even you would like. (yes, I’ve tasted the kids’ vitamins before). Our Nature Made® KIDS FIRST® Multivitamin Gummies come in great-tasting all- natural fruit flavors the kids love, including Orange, Cherry & Mixed Berry.

Those are great tips, I wish I had this checklist when the kids were smaller. What I did instead was ask fellow moms and my pedia about what multivitamins works best for the kids.

Great tips! Definitely talk to a doctor beforehand. Even natural ingredients can be harmful if more is taken than what the body needs.
Lots of great tips for helping your kids get the nutrients they need. It’s not always easy to make sure they are eating enough fruits and veggies, so vitamins help.
I agree, it is very important to always talk to the doctor before giving our kids any vitamins. But eating the right food I should say still is very important 🙂
