Holiday Gift Guide: Gigamic Strategic Games, Puzzles and Brain Teasers

I first discovered Gigamic games this summer at Blogger Bash and immediately found something really special in their products. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Gigamic is an international publisher and distributor of a series of both fun and strategic games, puzzles, and brain teasers. I don’t know about you, but growing up, I absolutely loved games like this. Even more than the sheer fun of the challenge, it’s about creating those priceless moments as a family playing games, laughing and enjoying the company. That’s what Gigamic strives to bring to us.

I joined them again a few weeks ago at the Ultimate Women’s Expo right here in Atlanta and brought my kids along to play for a bit. Some of the games we got to experience included the following:

Quarto

Quarto is one of the top of the line in quality and strategy in my opinion. It features 16 game pieces with 4 different attributes. The aim is to line up 4 pieces which share the same attribute. The problem is you can’t choose which piece you’re going to play – your opponent chooses for you.

Katamino

My 5 year old really got a kick out of this game at the expo and it has become one of her favorite challenges here at home. Katamino is an award winning puzzle game with both 2D and 3D challenges of progressive difficulty, and also offers a strategic game challenge for two players. With over 500 challenges included with the game, you’ll always have another puzzle to solve.

Yogi

Finally, Yogi is one of those games that is filled with such goofy fun, it makes for a perfect icebreaker at any party or event. Each turn you draw a card with a simple instruction, such as putting the card on top of your head or putting your finger on your nose. If a player can’t comply with all of them, they are out of the game. I’ve played this several times and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as you think!
