STEM Education (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) has become a major focus both in schools and extracurricular activities, as well as in my home. I love to share STEM learning resources and tools here because my daughters really enjoy it and it has become such an integral part of their learning and development. The goal behind STEM activities and programs is to foster kids throughout their schooling with hands-on approaches in thinking critically, creating, designing, and making meaningful connections between their school work, their community, and global issues. Hands-on learning increases student involvement and thus promotes more learning than teaching for a test.
From now through September 26th, I am partnering with Orkin to share details of their newest Start with Science campaign, which helps to fund in-class STEM activities and learning experiences in public and charter schools nationwide via DonorsChoose.org. The Start With Science initiative has been integral in supporting science education and in helping teachers across America bring their classroom projects to life! Whether it’s dropping an egg from the roof without breaking it or plant watering experiments, this initiative hopes to amplify our children’s eagerness to learn by providing teachers with the necessary resources to make these experiences possible for kids around the country.
To date, Orkin has donated over $325,000 to fund 1,400+ projects for more than 123,000 U.S. public school students, fostering a hands-on classroom approach that entices our children to learn and excel in school. The impact this has already had on our students is immeasurable and I’m proud to help further increase this impact.
I have personally pledged to donate $250 to contribute to science and math projects to the International Academy of Smyrna, our local charter school dedicated to providing an engaging, student-centered environment and rigorous, relevant curriculum that promote the development of critical thinking skills. My donation will help provide tablets and other technology to students; enabling them to be able to work in smaller groups which allow for more productivity in the classroom.
