Kids Get Ready to Rumble at UFC Gym Perimeter!

06/03/14 | Tips for Moms

Little known “about me” fact: Years ago, my husband and I were pretty big kickboxing enthusiasts. While I have not been nearly as active as I’d like, my husband stuck with it and recently fought (and won) a recent Corporate Fight Night boxing match here in Atlanta. What was most awesome about the whole experience was seeing my 2 girls really get involved with the training and exercise process. Seriously, picture my dainty little Leila on the ground doing pushups and burpees like a champion!

Anyway, it couldn’t have come at a better time that we were invited to check out a new kids’ class at UFC Gym Perimeter.  This UFC Gym is new to the Atlanta area and has something for every member of the family – including boxing, kickboxing, and MMA classes; private and advanced training. The gym also recently started a kids program with classes every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. It’s taught by a staff of rockstar, attentive professionals, UFC Gym Perimeter kids classes help your little one learn self-confidence, coordination, discipline and self-defense. It’s also a great way for them to burn energy and have fun!

And you’re gonna hear me roar…

Kids classes were only for ages 5-12, so Leila was the only one able to participate in this one. The class started off with about 15 minutes of stretching and a cardio-based workout. When she first started the class, however, she was pretty nervous and stepped away from the group for a while. I think she thought she was getting ready to spar or something – Why she’d think I would set her up like that I’ll never know.

Nonetheless, those rockstar instructors were so patient and understanding with her. While the class instructor continued with the other kids in the class, another instructor gave Leila that special attention she loves and allowed her to do her warm up privately until she felt comfortable enough to join the rest of the group. At that point, she was all in! She continued with the class through 3 10-minutes stages, which included activities like shadow boxing and line drills. Finally, the class concluded with a stretch and a little fun game. All of which, Leila truly had a blast (and broke a little sweat).

I also had a chance to meet and speak to some other regular members of the gym whose kids were enrolled in the class and they raved about it.  Really and truly, it’s such a great confidence booster and it was very apparent watching those kids in action.

Below are some more pics and video of their experience. Keep up with the latest from UFC Gym Perimeter on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
