Mailman, Dance coach, Aunty So-and-so with the last-minute RSVP to Christmas dinner … Dang it!
No matter how prepared you think you are for Christmas gift-giving, there always seems to be someone you’ve missed on your list. One of my fondest memories of my grandmother was the fact that she always had a last minute gift on hand for anyone who’d stop by her home. She’d always see to it that each of her guests would feel special and loved with a thoughtful gift that seem to be picked out just for them. That was one characteristic everyone loved about her and still talks about even years later. How I’d love to make people feel as special as she did!
This year, American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand products are my saving grace for last minute gift ideas.
I’m making these really sweet and fragrant candles with custom labels, which not only look great, but are also perfect for any recipient. I managed to find a big assortment of these at Walmart, including the Jar Candles, 2-Wick Tumblers, Car Jar Air Fresheners, and Fragrance Beads (which I’ll probably keep for myself). There are also a ton of different rich fragrances to choose from. My favorites were the Santa’s Treat, Apple Cinnamon Cider, and Lavender.
The next step is just preparing the custom labels to add a special touch to those last minute gifts. Here’s a quick and easy tutorial for how to prepare these custom gifts:
What you’ll need:
- Any assortment of Large American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand Jar Candles, available at Walmart in the “Home decor” or the Holiday section and/or Walmart.com
- 3 1/3 in by 4 in Shipping labels (ex. Avery 8164), available at any office supply store.
- Color Printer
Instructions (super easy)
Step 1.
Start by printing these festive holiday labels onto the shipping labels with a color printer. Carefully place the label on the American Home™ by Yankee Candle® brand Jar Candle.
Step 2.
You’ll want to also want to include the instructions for use on the candle just to ensure safe and proper use by your gift recipient. Print the candle instructions HERE and place them on the back of the candle. You may want to trim them a bit to eliminate some of the white space. FYI, the instructions read as follows:
You can add some festive holiday ribbon, bows, etc. to finalize the gift. Likewise, you can present the final gift in a gift bag.
And here you have your final product – the perfect last minute gift for any recipient on your list!

what a great gift idea the labels look awesome
I can’t believe I never thought to do this as a last minute gift before. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
This is a great idea. I love scented candles. The scent of apple cinnamon is very comforting.
I love this idea!! I like how you changed the candle up by putting your own label.
I have a few more gifts and a Yankee candle might just be the ticket. They’re always a hit. Thanks for the great post!
Very cute idea – you can really make it personal.
