Spring Break is happening here in Atlanta just next week for most schools. Where has the year gone?? As ideal as it is to have all of your plans laid out, that’s not always a reality for busy moms. I know that was me during our recent Winter Break and I was left searching for some last minute ideas to keep the kids occupied. If you haven’t made your Spring Break plans yet, here are some last minute Spring Break ideas, both fresh new local Atlanta attractions and easy local getaways for those of us who live in the Southeast.
7 Last Minute Spring Break Ideas – Atlanta attractions:
Andretti Indoor Karting & Games
Andretti Indoor Karting and Games is headquartered in Roswell, Ga., though I’ve only had a chance to visit the Marietta location. Their locations feature high-speed super-karts, European-style tracks, a state of the art arcade, XD motion theater, racing simulators, ropes course and attractions such as cosmic rock wall, zip line, laser tag and bowling.
I had a chance to visit Andretti Indoor Karting and Games in Marietta a few weeks ago with the family and was really pleasantly surprised. With my children being so young (7 & 4), I didn’t think there would be a lot to keep them occupied, but I was so wrong!
In addition to the incredibly awesome go-kart racing experience (which my hubby had a blast experiencing), there are a ton of fun games and activities for even the younger kids. Our absolute favorite experience was The Dark Ride. It’s a 5 minute 7-D (yes, you read that right) simulated ride that guides you and up to 7 others on an action packed adventure using laser blasters to fight off on-screen enemies. Each of these rides vary in intensity, so we of course had to go with the kids’ adventure (which was still tons of fun)!
Finally, each location is also home to The Andretti Grill, a full bar & restaurant. Don’t worry about being served crappy bar food, as you’ll find lots of hearty and healthy meal options. There were quite a few gluten free choices and even a gluten-free dessert that was to-die-for!
All in all, you’ll find lots of affordable fun for the whole family at Andretti Karting, so be sure to keep it in mind for your last minute Spring Break plans! For more information including pricing, visit andrettikarting.com/marietta or andrettikarting.com.
Children’s Museum of Atlanta
The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is one of my favorites, as they have a fairly new and extensive area for children that really encourages STEM learning for kids in a really fun and interactive way. The kids literally “Step up to Science,” as they walk up a flight of piano stairs to completely interactive area featuring some really cool science tools and games that challenge kids and adults alike. 2 not to miss exhibits – the “build your own robot” tool, where you literally put various pieces together to build a moving robot of sorts; and the “Mindball” which I’m still trying to figure out.
Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium has actually added quite a few new attractions in recent years, including Aquanaut Adventure: A Discovery Zone and the brand new Sea Lions Exhibit. I actually just took the kids there this past weekend, so be sure to check out this guide to getting around the Aquarium.
Also, crowds are likely to be a little insane, so get there early!
Legoland Discovery Center
Legoland, located at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, just debuted Pirate Adventure Island, where families can explore a treasure island themed space and create their own LEGO sandcastle or treasure map, construct a LEGO pirate ship, and set sail through an aquatic obstacle. This is sure to keep the kids happy for hours on end!
While you’re there, be sure to also check out the LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure! That one is still a favorite in my household!
Medieval Times
Enjoy an action-packed Spring break at Medieval Times! Four-course Medieval feast as you experience a thrilling, two-hour live show featuring jousting, sword fighting and magnificent pure Spanish horses. Some Spring Break Specials include $36.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids and students with promo code: SBWEB16 and Free Junior Knight Training available for select shows throughout Spring break! *Visit their website for dates and restrictions.*
Six Flags Over Georgia
Six Flags over Georgia will be hosting the Grand Opening of Bugs Bunny Boomtown, featuring 7 Rides and attractions, including an interactive water ride, twisting swings, flying ships, a junior Ferris wheel, a climbing playground, a truck-driving adventure, and an up-and-down drop tower.

Stone Mountain Park – Spring FUN Break
Enjoy Spring FUN Break at Stone Mountain Park with fun for kids and adults. Spring FUN Break kicks off with the grand opening of the new attraction ‘the Jump’, a thrilling, family-friendly, multi-level free fall drop experience. They’ve also got attractions like SkyHike, one of the country’s largest ropes courses and Geyser Tower, a unique water adventure. Meet exotic birds with Clint Carvalho and marvel at Matt Baum’s Magic Show. At night, guests light up Stone Mountain with the Lasershow Spectacular!
