My real deal review of Not Your Child GPS Device ‪#‎NYCsafekids‬

Scary Fact: A child goes missing every 40 seconds!

This frightening statistic alone was enough to prompt me to want to try out the brand new Not Your Child GPS device. I received the device a few weeks ago and had some time to play around with the tons of cool features, including the web and app based tracking platform. I’m still familiarizing myself with it and testing out various scenarios (i.e. next week’s school field trip and possibly a trip to a beach somewhere), but so far, here’s my Real Deal Product Review!

The Ideal:

Simply Accurate feature
The Not Your Child Device features a Quad band G.S.M modem, which makes it extremely accurate. Plus, it includes an Internal G.S.M antenna for better security and a highly sensitive G.P.S engine

Customizable Alerts
On our Not Your Child platform you have the freedom to customize different alerts for different days, giving you the flexibility to customize around your child’s/loved one’s activities/schedule. For example, on days you know the kids will be pretty close to you, there’s no need to be bothered by alerts. However, for days they have a practice you won’t be attending, this can be extremely helpful. These customizable alerts include the following:

• Geo-fence management
• Geofence time in and out
• Geofencespeed alert
• Speed alerts
• Fall down alert for child safety and elderly monitoring
• S.O.S button for help
• P.O.I (Point Of Interest) access alert
• Landmark arriving/leaving alert
• After hours alerts

• Route geo fence speed alert
• Stop alert

Extremely Durable
The Not Your Child GPS is extremely durable and can withstand the shock and vibration of even the most active child. Its US Military shock & vibration, waterproof standards, and replaceable battery are among the highlights of this device.

Notification by Email or Text
The Not Your Child (series A) G.P.S sends alerts as an email to an email address or as an sms to a cell phone. This includes the S.O.S alerts!

The ordeal:

Initial Setup
While I like to think I’m pretty tech savvy, I think my skills and attention set don’t go far past my computer. There are a few slight rules you need to follow when setting up the device in order for it to work properly. Unfortunately, I didn’t’ read fully through the directions early on and faced some challenges early on. However, they do have a pretty helpful technical support department to walk you through the troubleshooting steps and get you up and running.

Flashing Lights
The device has led lights to indicate power, charge and connectivity. This is actually extremely helpful, but you want to make sure you read up on what the colors all mean first. 

The Real Deal:

In this day and age, the safety of our kids is our number one priority. With such precious cargo, if you’re going to use a GPS device, it’s important to have one that you can trust to work as it’s supposed to. The accuracy feature is by far the most important thing to me, as if I were ever (God forbid) in a situation where I could not locate my children, a ballpark “idea” or region is just not going to cut it.
