In going along with my 365 Days of Thanks mission, this past weekend, some very special friends of mine in both Atlanta and New York planned an incredible baby shower to welcome baby #2. I really didn’t expect to have a shower since it’s not my first child and I fortunately have so many items still from baby #1. However, my good friend from NY insisted I put her in touch with my friends down here to help plan one for me.
What they put together far exceeded my expectations, as it was just a fabulous welcoming for my upcoming little one. First of all, my friends are so creative and cool! Here are just a few of some great ideas they had for the shower:
1. Since it was actually a “princess preparation party,” all of the guests brought mostly all of the baby essentials I needed for the baby, including one pack of diapers each. The best part was that they were all assigned different sizes according to their names, so I wouldn’t end up with too many of just one size! It was perfect and I feel so set right now for at least her first 6 months to year of life!
2. They came up with the absolute coolest keepsake for the baby. Each guest was handed a card and envelope with a number on it from 1 to however many guests there were. They were then asked to write a note to the baby for her to read when she turns whatever number was listed on the card. So, in other words, if your card said 15, you had to write a note for her to read on her 15th birthday. They could give a piece of advice or a nice wish or whatever. How cool is that?! My only regret now is that I don’t have any for Leila, but I’m working on coming up with something equally as cool for her.
3. I was in awe of all of the adorable little touches that were included, from the delicious food spread, to the “princess punch” (there was a spiked one too, which of course I didn’t get to try, but also got rave reviews), to the oh so adorable favors! Pictures couldn’t do it all justice, but here are some visuals:
Now…I’m thankful for the fabulous party…I’m thankful for the lovely and totally useful gifts….I’m thankful for the fact that I probably wont need to buy any diapers or wipes for a very long time. However, what I am most thankful for is so much deeper than that. I had to take a moment and just reflect on the whole picture-the fact I am fortunate enough to have other women in my life who genuinely support me and care about my family. From the effort that was displayed to put this event together to the warmest well-wishes from everyone who attended, I felt so blessed to have such love and encouragement from the people I keep in my circle. I never for a moment take for granted the fact that there are so many people in this world devoid of such love and encouragement and for those people, I send out a prayer that they too will find that blessing in this lifetime.
So, with all of that said, today I am thankful for the love and encouragement of true friends.
