Unexpected Benefits of Regular Massage Therapy

09/16/17 | Green Living & Holistic Health

It’s no secret, I am a huge fan of massage therapy and the many benefits that come from it.  So, of course, when I was approached by a local Atlanta spa called Spa 810, I could not pass up the opportunity to check them out.  Spa 810 is a full service spa that offers the best in laser, skin, and massage treatments. They’re really conveniently located in Atlantic Station, so it’s pretty ideal for an afternoon at the spa, followed by a nice lunch and some shopping. ?

What I found to be truly unique was the fact that in addition to – I’ll say – traditional massage therapy, they also offer a wide array of more specialized services I’d love to check out in the near future as well. These include Trigger Point Therapy, Reflexology, Couples Massages and more. I was particularly excited about their Khundalini Massage, which combines traditional massage with chakra cleansing and alignment. Learn more about this type of energy healing HERE.

I am pretty proud of myself in the fact that I’ve been good at keeping up with regular massage therapy within the past year or so and my body thanks me for it!  One of the most common questions I get asked is just how often you can (or should) get a massage.  The truth is that it really varies from person to person depending on your specific health challenges.  For example, it might be necessary for some to have a massage about once a week or every other week, while for just general maintenance, once a month could be ideal.  The sad truth a lot of moms face though is the thought that massage therapy is merely something we can “treat ourselves” to once a year, when, in fact, there are some really major benefits that come from regular massage therapy.

Most people are aware that regular massage therapy does wonders when it comes to helping the body relax, but most don’t know about some of the extra (unexpected) benefits of getting a massage. Here are three to consider:

            Improved Sleep

Failure to get a good night’s sleep has the potential to affect your overall health, even to the point of not functioning properly. Massage therapy to the rescue! Not only does it help you say goodbye to stress, it increases the levels of dopamine and serotonin released into your system. Both of these chemicals are known to contribute to better sleep.

As an adult, it’s recommended that you get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. Less than that probably means you’re not living up to your highest potential.

More Energy

You typically feel more energetic after getting up from the massage table. This is due to the fact that massage increases blood circulation throughout your entire body. It also means that more oxygen flows through your blood, which also results in higher energy levels.

Better Self-Esteem and Clarity

Treating yourself to a massage releases endorphins. This hormone is responsible for making your body feel good. When you feel good about yourself, it’s easier to look at things more clearly. That being said, the next time you find yourself in a difficult situation, scheduling a massage session just might help you rectify the problem sooner.

************************************

These are just a few of the unexpected benefits of regular massage therapy. If you’ve never experienced what it’s like to get a massage, there really is no time like the present! Scads of people will be the first to tell you that massages are quite addictive. It really does feel that good!

I do plan on visiting Spa 810 again and hope to try out some of their other services. I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted!  Click HERE to find a Spa 810 location near you and let me know what you think!

I’ve never had a professional massage before. Not really a massage type of person. However, I had no idea all of the amazing benefits that come from massage therapy.
