- Make sure you have meals on hand!
I know my kids are literally always hungry and I can only imagine how frustrating it can be for a babysitter trying to raid your fridge for a suitable meal to calm the kids down. Once you’ve got their meals covered, here are a few more things you can do to make your babysitter’s job easier.
2. Pay Promptly and Fairly
Unless you’ve come to an agreement beforehand, always pay your babysitter promptly. They’ve usually agreed to do the job under the pretense that they would be $XX richer by the end of the task and it’s extremely unfair to expect them to wait to get their payment. Prepare accordingly to have your babysitter’s payment ready by the end of the evening.
3. Provide Emergency Contact Information
No one likes to think about the possibility of something happening to their children, when they’re away. Unfortunately, an accident or injury can happen to anyone at any time. Failure to provide emergency contact information can mean the difference between your child’s well-being and a terrible tragedy. Have your emergency contact list readily available for your babysitter on the fridge or somewhere else it can be easily found.
4. Supply all of the essentials your child(ren) may need
This includes allergy meds, diapers (if applicable), electronic devises and dolls your child will absolutely not sleep without. For obvious reasons, it makes the whole experience a whole lot easier!
5. Make Your Sitter Feel Safe
As they are spending time in your home for those hours, make sure to acquaint them with your fire extinguisher locations, alarm instructions and any other potential safety hazards in your home.
6. Don’t Get Too Personal
Every parent needs someone to talk to, from time to time. That being said, it’s never a good idea to get too personal with the person caring for your children. Although you might feel better, after sharing your problems, this will probably make your babysitter feel extremely uncomfortable.
7. Make Your Sitter Feel Welcome (And appreciated)
Last, but certainly not least, it’s crucial to make your babysitter feel welcome from the moment you open the door. No one wants to be in an unfriendly environment, especially when there’s an important job at hand. While not getting too personal as I mentioned earlier, be sure to take a moment to show how much you appreciate your sitter for being available to you and your children in your time of need.
These are just a few easy things you can do to make things easier on your babysitter. All of them are easy to put into play and won’t break the bank. Remember, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with “going the extra mile” for a great babysitter. I can almost guarantee that your kindness will be more than a little bit appreciated!
