Tis the season for love, peace, and giving! One of our favorite holiday activities we do as a family each year is preparing some yummy baked goods for our friends, the kids’ teachers and other VIPs in our lives. I usually take the lead on the task, while my hubby and kids chime in for mixing support.
Baking cookies from scratch is always nice, but I refuse to let the stress of the busy holiday season keep me from spreading holiday cheer! This year, we are making a really simple and delicious batch of sugar cookies using just a pouch of Betty Crocker Cookie Mix, a teaspoon of love, and a dash of creativity. Sounds like a winner right?
In planning for my holiday cookie batch, I checked out the Betty Crocker website for some inspiration and, with help from the kids, we decided on some Christmas tree, Gingerbread men, and heart-shaped sugar cookies. That last one was partially because they’ve been dying to try these new cookie cutters my mom gave me for Valentine’s Day that have been staring at me from the cupboards for months.
Here’s the super easy Sugar Cookie Recipe:
- 1 pouch Betty Crocker™ Sugar Cookie Mix
- 1 tablespoon Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
- ½ cup butter or margarine softened
- 1 egg
Preheat oven to 350°F (if using a non-stick cookie sheet. Heat to 375°F if not).
In medium bowl, mix cookie mix and 1 tbsp flour.
Add softened butter and egg and stir until soft dough forms.
Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with floured cookie cutter.
On ungreased cookie sheets, place cutouts 2 inches apart.
Bake 7-9 minutes or until edges are lightly golden brown.
Allow to cool at least 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.

Once the cookies were ready, it was time for gift-wrapping. Here’s where that dash of creativity kicked in. I simply placed the cookies in those Ziploc containers and made it into a gift basket with cello wrapping paper and ribbon. Pretty soon, these were ready to go!
Next week, we’ll be making another batch of these…only this time, we’ll have to set a few aside for Santa. He’s a big fan of my cookies too!
