3 Natural Wood Floor Cleaner DIY Recipes

Natural Wood Floor Cleaner DIY Recipes

Many people have switched to more natural products because of the amount of chemicals in traditional commercial cleaning products. I, for one, am not only concerned about the effect of these chemicals on my health, but the health of my entire family. Chemicals used in traditional floor cleaners can cause serious health issues, especially health issues of the respiratory system. For those looking for chemical-free cleaning products, you might want to try one of these natural wood floor cleaner DIY recipes.

Natural Wood Floor Cleaner DIY Recipe #1

For this first recipe, you are going to need one gallon of water. Once you have your gallon of water added to a bucket, add in 1 cup white household vinegar. This is a wonderful floor cleaner for natural wood. Never, ever add vinegar to your wood floor undiluted as chances are you will damage your wood flooring. However, this recipe is perfectly safe to use, provided you wring out your mop so that you are actually damp mopping the floor. The properties that make up the vinegar are wonderful to use as a disinfectant as well as for extra muscle power. The results are fabulous.

Natural Wood Floor Cleaner DIY Recipe #2

For the second recipe, you are going to need 1 gallon of water, 1 cup white household vinegar, plus peppermint essential oil. Once the water has been measured and placed into a bucket, add in the white vinegar, and then add in 10 drops of peppermint essential oil . Damp mop your floor. The water and vinegar will lift off dirt, dust, and grime, while the scent of the peppermint oil will pervade your home. The peppermint oil will also give your wood floors that extra glow.

Natural Wood Floor Cleaner DIY Recipe #2

This last recipe requires a little more muscle power from you. That is, rather than use a mop to wipe down your wood floor, you are going to have to wipe the floor clean by hand. Some people do prefer to wipe down their floors without using a mop, so I thought I would include a recipe that allows them to do just that.

Tea Recipe for Cleaning Natural Wood Floors

For this recipe you are going to need some bagged black tea or black tea in the bag. Do not use any other tea flavor as it will not give you the cleaning effectiveness that you desire. Take the 1 black tea bag and place them in a medium sized disposable tub, such as a large margarine tub. To this, add in two cups boiling water. Let the tea bags steep in the boiling water until the water reaches room temperature. Take out the tea bag and discard.

Dip a new cleaning cloth into the tea and water mixture. Wring out. Wipe the floor and then use a dry cloth to remove any dampness. The tannic acid in the black tea leaves will help to bring back the natural shine of your natural wood floors.

You could also use that to clean your countertops! I love using essential oils for household cleaning. In addition to being all natural, many of them have their own health benefits.

I’ll have to stick with one that doesn’t have vinegar in it. While I find it very useful, my hubby can not tolerate the smell.

I miss wood floors. We currently have tile throughout most but are thinking of switching it all out for wood again.
