Christian Summer Camps Nationwide

03/10/16 | Tips for Moms

Christian Summer Camps

If you are looking for Christian summer camps, fortunately, there are quite a variety of great options for parents. Many young Christians find that they deepen their faith by spending their summer partaking various volunteer activities such as serving others who are in need or even heading out various mission trips. Likewise, some may be interested in Christian Summer camps or Church Camps that can assist them grow as strong believers. Some of the main goals of attending Christian Summer Camps are:

  • To allow your child to interact with the fellow Christian children,
  • To learn more about their faith,
  • To strengthen their relationship with God, and
  • To practice the discipline and structure while still enjoying a traditional experience of summer camp

Choosing the Best Christian Summer Camp for your child:

Choosing the right Christian summer camp or church camp begins with the assessment of the child’s needs and their interests, while still assessing the overall beliefs of your family. Keep in mind that the needs and interests are likely different for younger children, while the Christian summer camps for high school students may follow a different course. Some Christian family camps offer intensive or immersive programs, while others vary in programming intensity. You will have to decide whether you need a learning adventure, something more physically challenging, a character building experience, plain summer fun or skill building. There are some Christian Music Camps, Christian Art Camps, etc., but most people will go for a church camp that will satisfy more than one need.

Furthermore, you should consider whether you prefer a day camp closer to your home or an overnight summer camp, as well as the type of activities your teen or child will enjoy during the stay.

Your best bet is to check out the church camp website, as well as social media mentions on Facebook and any unofficial reviews written by previous campers. These will all be a great source of testimonials and comments.

You’ll also want to talk to the camp representatives with a list of questions that are important to you. Many church camps that are already affiliated with a church have year round staff you can talk to. You should also ask whether there is a camper or camp parent you should talk to as a reference.

Scholarships for Christian Summer Camps

There are camps that offer scholarships, total or partial scholarships and financial aid to the camper and the family. The camps may not list such programs on their printed materials or websites, so a good idea will be to just ask. There are also many independent philanthropic groups which offer financial aide for the summer campers including to individuals with special needs.
