A few weeks ago, I shared my experience viewing the new Best Buy Tech Home here in Atlanta. It’s a completely smart home and the literally the future of home functionality and productivity. From robotic dogs to voice activated lighting to a family hub refrigerator, they’ve thought of everything. As much as I would love to have all of it in my home (seriously!), this might realistically become a piece by piece transformation.
The next step after my Tech Home experience was to set up an in-home appointment with a Best Buy Home Advisor. If this sounds unheard of, it’s because it’s actually a brand new program Best Buy is implementing. How it works is a Best Buy Home Advisor comes to your home at a scheduled time to meet with you and get a feel for your lifestyle needs and wish lists. For example: Do you have young kids? Do you entertain much? Do you work from home? Etc. From there, your Advisor puts together his recommended proposal specifically based on what you all discussed.
In my case, during my consultation with my advisor, I shared the fact that I’m a work from home mom and the solutions I am seeking are those that will help me increase productivity in my home and for my business. I entertain sometimes, but it’s not a major priority for me. My family’s safety is important and although I consider my neighborhood to be pretty safe, I fear that the holidays are coming and that is usually the time I feel urged to employ greater safety matters. Lastly, he understood that while I would be willing to invest in such products that make my life just a little bit easier, I don’t have the budget to roll out “the works.”
Based on our conversation, I received a proposal from my advisor that really showed me that he was paying attention! Most of my proposed items fall under the home office category, but are really things I can use to increase productivity throughout my home. These include things like the Samsung – SmartThings Hub, Amazon Echo (which is basically like a Siri for the home), and for my safety concerns, a Ring Doorbell with add on Smart wired camera and Smart door lock. The latter will really come in handy as packages get delivered to my home over the holidays.
The next step would be me contacting my In Home Advisor again and letting him know which of these I want to implement in my home. From that point, he’ll be taking the lead in getting everything ordered, arranging deliveries, and setting up installation appointments. I don’t even have to visit a Best Buy store!
The best part of this entire program is the fact that it’s not just a one time deal at all. My In-Home Advisor becomes pretty much “my guy” for all of my future electronic needs. Therefore, whenever I need anything new, anything repaired, or anything advised on, I can just give him a call. If it’s not something within his expertise, he gets me to the right person. Since about 90% of the electronics in my home come from Best Buy anyway, having this service is a huge relief for me knowing that if I ever need a new printer, camera, laptop repair, TV upgrade, whatever – I know who to call! Last, but not least, this service is absolutely free!
The bad news: the Best Buy In-Home Advisor Program is still only in a few markets – Atlanta, Orlando, Austin and San Antonio, Texas. My Advisor shared with me that they were rolling it out in a few other markets pretty soon, but he wasn’t sure when it would become a nationwide service. If you live in one of these markets, go ahead and set up your free appointment here! Even if you’re not currently in one of these markets, be sure to check with your local Best Buy for more updates!
Disclosure: I have been compensated for this review in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.
