Going green is starting to become more normal throughout our society, however there are many people that don’t even know where to begin. I, personally took a big leap last year and purchased my first electric car. It turned out to be everything I imagined – better for the environment, more cost effective, and allowed for a healthier lifestyle altogether. The good news is, you don’t have to necessarily take such a huge leap (or make such a large purchase) to start going green.

Starting with simple things first, followed by incorporating new ways can really make this a simple process. This allows for you to easily change your way of thinking about the benefits of implementing these ideas. Start within your home, which will lead to branching out in the community for optimal growth. While making these transitions you can only grow from there.

- Save on energy being used and cost by unplugging and powering down as many electronics as possible when not in use. Unplugging is the best option, because even if you power down, energy is still being used. Once you do this for a few days, it’ll just become part of your normal routine when leaving home. You would be amazed at the difference this can make.
- Make effortless changes such as no longer using plastic bottles. Do not buy bottled water, just get reusable and that problem is solved. Ger reusable grocery bags. Plastic bags create so many problems, and there is an easy fix to this. Buy rechargeable batteries; they cost just a tiny bit more upon purchase, but save so much in the long run.
- One of the simplest things to do is eat and shop locally as much as possible. This easy step can benefit so many people in different ways that you shouldn’t even have to give it a second thought.
- Buying used can help to cut down on consumption, while donating when possible can help to eliminate waste. This helps the community and society as a whole.
- Plan ahead for running errands by combining multiple smaller trips into a single larger trip. A little extra planning saves a lot of time in the long run. Join or even start a community garden. With minimal effort you can produce your own food which cuts down on travelling, shopping and the money spent. Also, this will get you in touch with others in the community who are just as willing to make this world a better place to live.
