Georgia Aquarium for the Holidays – 2 New Exhibits to Explore

I know the Georgia Aquarium is a must-visit for Atlanta tourists, but it’s honestly one of the most fun day-excursions for my family.  Each time we go, we find newer and cooler exhibits.  We recently had a chance to visit and experience the Georgia Aquarium Halloween event, along with 2 brand new exhibits my kids cannot stop talking about!

First, if you haven’t been before, let me tell you that the Georgia Aquarium always has tons of fun going on.  Last Christmas, we enjoyed the mid-day shows, Penguin Waddle Walk, and more cool stuff during their Festival of the SEAson event. Halloween was an exciting time as well, with children (and some grown ups) in costume, ghoulish music and décor, and yes…some super fun entertainment!

If you get to visit the Georgia Aquarium for the holidays –whether you’re vacationing or staycationing in Atlanta, there are 2 extremely awesome exhibits that are a must-see:

SHARKS: On Assignment with Brian Skerry

This is a National Geographic Photography exhibit that National Geographic Explorer and award-winning photojournalist Brian Skerry has spent more than 10,000 hours underwater exploring the world’s ocean with a camera to show why sharks need to be protected and appreciated as an integral species within our ecosystem.  Visitors can experience large-scale images and videos, all highlighting Skerry’s passion, skill and lifelong commitment to conservation of our oceans.  This is actually its first time being shown outside of the National Geographic Museum in D.C. and is in town for a limited time only. 

We caught this exhibit on our way to the always fun and Fintastic 4-D Funbelievable theater about none other than Sharks! Talk about a deep dive into a species – my daughter’s first words after we left the theater…”I  used to want to be a mermaid, but now, not so much!” lol

 

Virtual Reality Simulator: Dive in Prehistoric Seas

During your visit to the Georgia Aquarium, you absolutely have to check out their all new Virtual Reality Simulator where you get to be  “transported” back in time and glimpse amazing marine life of the distant past. The experience is a state-of-the-art motion-based virtual reality ride using the latest visual display technology. It’s an extra fee to experience, but well worth it!
