Life’s Rollercoaster: A Journey of Loss, Challenges, and Blessings

02/23/24 | just my thoughts

Hey there, lovely readers…

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been hiding, let me tell you, life has been lifeing hard, and sometimes, you just need to take a step back and catch your breath. So, grab a cup of tea or coffee (or wine), settle in, because I’ve got quite the story to share with you today.

Part 1: The Rollercoaster Begins

Let’s rewind to 2020. Ah, 2020, the year that seemed to throw everything including the kitchen sink our way. It started with a gut-wrenching blow as I lost my dad to a Covid-related illness. My dad and I had a complicated father-daughter relationship over the years, but losing him after years of reconciliation, forgiveness and restoration felt like the cruelest thing to me.

And then, just when I thought I’d weathered the worst of it, 2021 came knocking with its own set of challenges. Unfortunately, for those of you who may recall stepsister’s journey with leukemia, she lost her battle in June of that year.  Navigating the waves of grief was like trying to find my footing in a stormy sea, but slowly, I learned to ride the waves and find solace in the memories we shared.

Adding to the stress, the housing market, relentless and unforgiving, became my new battleground. Selling my house was like diving headfirst into a shark tank, and finding a new one? Let’s just say it felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. After what felt like a lifetime of uncertainty, I finally closed on a new house on Dec. 29th, just in the nick of time before they kicked us out of our old one!  (stay tuned for new DIY addiction)

A Twist of Fate

But, as they say, when it rains, it pours. No sooner had I settled into my new abode, I started experiencing some serious health challenges. Cue the frantic WebMD searches and late-night worries. I was convinced the house was filled with lead or some other toxin, but as it turned out, the culprit was something I never saw coming – I was pregnant at 42 years old!  My 10 year challenge looked like this:

The Pregnancy Chronicles

Let me tell you, navigating pregnancy in your 40s is like riding a rollercoaster backwards and blindfolded. Between the morning sickness that lasted all day, the fatigue that could rival a hibernating bear, and the sudden sensorineural hearing loss (more on that in part 2), I felt like I was living in a literal haze.

But amidst the chaos and uncertainty, there was a beacon of light – my beautiful baby boy, TJ. Born on Aug. 13th, 2022, he came into this world with a cry that echoed with hope and promise. So, while sleep had taken the place of my writing for a while, I can assure you that once I get back into my groove, my readers will be bombarded with stories about what it’s like to have a baby in your 40s (spoiler alert: it’s a wild ride!)

Moving Forward

So in short, that’s where I’ve been these past few years – navigating the twists and turns of life’s rollercoaster with equal parts grace and grit. It hasn’t been easy, but through it all, I’ve learned to cherish the highs, weather the lows, and embrace the unexpected blessings that come our way.

Check out part 2 of my journey to dive into the whirlwind of emotions and challenges that came with sudden sensorineural hearing loss during pregnancy.

More posts to come soon, but until then, remember to hold onto hope, find joy in the little moments, and never underestimate the power of a good laugh.

Peace and Love!
