What are the Bare Necessities of your Family? #PetesDragonEvent #JungleBookBluRay

09/01/16 | Entertainment

You know how Disney movies always seem to have the most amazing soundtracks and catchiest jingles? It’s a small world after all, Under the sea, Hakuna Matata, Let it go, Supercalif…well, you get the picture!

In true Disney fashion, The Jungle Book gives us yet another song we can’t get out of our heads.  If you’ve gotten your copy of The Jungle Book on Blu-ray and Digital HD, you can see for yourself.  There’s a scene with Mowgli and Baloo where we get to hear the classic song Bare Necessities, which got me to thinking, What are the bare necessities of our family? As in, what are the things we absolutely cannot do without? I mean besides the obvious stuff like food, shelter, etc. Well, I didn’t have to think that long or hard to find an answer. Just a week in my life gave me the following top 3 bare necessities I need for my family:

1. Family dinners
We try to sit down as a family for dinner as often as we can. Even on days where my husband works late, the 3 of us will at least eat a meal at the table. This is the moment every day where I get to hear the completely unfiltered version of everyone’s day and usually also results in being my greatest laugh of the day as well.

2. Sunday mornings
This is the one day of the week where my husband does not have to work, the kids don’t have school, my inbox is not active, etc. Like clockwork, the girls jump into our bed on Sunday morning and just lay with us. We hold each other, laugh, bond and -however uncomfortable having 4 people squeeze on a king size bed- we have the most precious moment of our week.

3. Skype, FaceTime, etc.
This may seem a little out of sequence with the others, but one of the saddest things about living far away from the rest of your family is not being able to see each other and share in these everyday and/or special moments. It’s nothing short of amazing being able to hop online and see our loved ones face to face whenever we want. Even as I write this, I remember I have some funny faces to make to my baby nephew. 🙂

These are my top 3. What are the bare necessities you need for your families?

yeah I agree on the third which is facetime or video call. Thanx for the technology, at least they can bridge the gap in communication if one parent is away 🙂

That song is addictive! I can remember my young self singing that song almost all the time. It’s nice that you value Sundays, that’s what it’s like with my family as well. Quality time is important.

Family dinners is definitely at the top of our list! It’s a great way to touch base with everyone in the family and see how their day has been and kind of check-in with each other!

Family time is everything in my household! One of favorite family moments is bonding together while watching a movie. We all love watching Disney movies even though my kids are older.

I agree that given the technology we have, it is very easy for us to reconnect with our relatives and friends anywhere.

My husband works nights and leaves at 5, so by the time kids get home from school he is pretty much close to being out the door. So for me- Routine is KEY! My house becomes chaos with schedule changes so I try to stick to as much of a routine as possible. The other necessity is Sunday’s. That is our family day- we only do the necessary chores (like dishes after dinner and feeding the animals) but other than that it is family day.

I guess you gave in for the tech bit, huh? I’m the same. I can’t live without skype/facetime, etc.
