Since we had the opportunity to see Moana in theaters a few months ago, my kids have been asking to see it non-stop! So needless to say, we were beyond excited when Disney offered to provide my family a free movie night kit to host an in-home viewing of Moana!
The timing of the party worked out perfectly. I’m getting ready for quite a bit of travel coming up and it has been a while since we got to enjoy a movie night at home. Moana is also such a special movie for us for the reasons I listed in this post. Additionally, it’s the perfect movie night to incorporate some really unique themes for your movie night.

Share Family Recipes
As many of you know, I am a first generation American, with my family coming from Liberia and Lebanon. I grew up eating mostly food from home and I try to make sure my children eat it as well. For a Moana Movie Night, it’s a fun idea to share some traditional foods, pastries and snacks as part of the festivities just to make the party extra 
special. In our case, my favorite dish, Liberian Jollof Rice, followed by Liberian “Milk Candy” worked perfectly.
DIY Crafts
To start your party, kids will love these awesome printable activity sheets and coloring pages. With mazes, memory match game, DIY bookmarks, and more, your kids will love these activities as they await the movie time.
Moana Sing-Along with Soundtrack
Really, every day is pretty much a Moana sing-along since it’s so hard to get those songs from the movie out of your head! (Thanks Lin-Manuel!) The Moana soundtrack is available for sale and makes a great addition to your Moana viewing party.
Moana Movie “Friends”
I’ll have to say, it was even more fun watching the movie this time around, as my girls insisted on having their “friends” Moana, Maui and Hei Hei join them from the movie. In fact, it was downright hilarious watching my youngest scold Maui for being mean to Moana or rub Heihei’s head after he bumped it so many times in the film.
Movie Streaming Device
With Disney Movies Anywhere, it’s really easy to download the digital version of your favorite Disney films to the device of your choice. You have your choice of Amazon Movies, Google Play, ITunes, etc. and can then watch your movies whenever and wherever you go.
Since we were given a new Google Chromecast to host our party, I finally learned how to set it up to stream the movie right to my TV for that big screen experience.
All in all, we had such a wonderful movie night watching Moana and I can bet Moana is going to play in my household many more times. Moana is out on Blu-Ray this Tuesday 3/7 and on Disney Movies Anywhere now.
