I recently shared with some friends of mine that I have a health condition (which I’ll get into another time) that, from time to time, causes a build up of toxins in my body that make me pretty sick for several days to weeks at a time. I try my hardest to prevent this in the first place, but when I do suffer, I can only rid with a series of calculated natural detox methods.
Top 10 Natural Detox Tips
Outside of any health condition, toxins are everywhere, from the air we breathe to the water we drink; even in the medications we take! Our bodies have a natural process to get rid of toxins, but we are exposed to so many toxins all the time that this process is too slow. That allows the toxins to build up and that build up can make us all sick. We can, however, speed this process up through detoxing. With these 10 natural detox tips, you can be sure to keep your body as healthy as ever.
Oil pulling is a quick and easy way to take care of all the toxic bacteria in your mouth. All you do is put a teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth every morning or night, swish it around for about 10 minutes then spit it out.
It is important to take care of your liver, which is our main detox organ. The liver loves d-limonene, which is an antioxidant found in citrus fruit rinds. Add two drops of lemon oil into your water. Drink a glass of this a day to help support healthy liver function and to naturally improve the detox process. You’ve surely heard of this “lemon diet” before as a weight loss technique, but it’s primary purpose is to help detoxify the body. By the way, you can still eat solid foods with this method.
Drink green tea in the morning instead of coffee. Green tea gives us antioxidants that our bodies need in the most natural form and gives us a healthier caffeine boost. You can still have your coffee, but if you can, try to switch out a few cups for green tea instead.
Fresh vegetables and fruits, organic white meats, and gluten-free whole grains. It’s important to pay attention to what you eat and, by eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, your body will be able to metabolize and digest them easier. Thus, leaving more time for natural detoxing to take place.
When we sweat, we release the toxins that are in our skin. It’s the most natural way of detoxing and you should aim to sweat about 15 minutes a day. You can do this by getting a good exercise in (which can also help the body’s natural detox process work faster) or just go relax at a sauna. Either way, it’s good for you.
Sleeping allows our bodies to go into a state of regeneration and cleansing. When we don’t get the required amount of sleep (about 7-9 hours each night), our detoxification organs don’t get the right amount of recharge they need to function at their best.
Eating foods rich in fiber help to support your body’s natural digestive detoxification pathway and keeps it working regularly.
Dry brushing your body (exactly what it sounds like) helps stimulate blood circulation and the lymphatic system, which will improve toxin elimination. It also helps improve the appearance of your skin by regenerating your skin cells. Spa body scrubs serve this very purpose, but you can easily and cheaply do this yourself using a stiff bristled body brush.
Switching your everyday products such as toothpaste, household cleaners, deodorant, etc. for natural products will help to eliminate a number of toxins your body takes in. This also allows the natural detox process to work faster and more efficiently.
Hot water will pull toxins from your body but adding in some Epsom salt will make you sweat making the detox twice as fast and twice as efficient.
Detoxing your body is important and crucial to your health and it takes a lot more than just a monthly juice cleanse to keep your body clean of toxins. With these top 10 natural detox tips, you can use them every day to be sure your body’s natural detox process is working at it’s very best.
