Parenting is hard. Wife-ing is hard. Adulting is hard. Cooking a meal your family will eat should be easy. Lately, I’ve really been struggling with getting meals to the table that A) don’t feel like another job to prepare and B) are actually healthy and balance and most importantly C) that my family will actually eat and enjoy. That’s why I was so excited to try out the meal delivery service called Home Chef.
Home Chef is a weekly meal delivery service that provides easy, chef inspired recipes and fresh ingredients right to your door. Each meal kit is perfectly portioned and pre-measured so you can skip the grocery store, reduce waste, and go straight to cooking a delicious meal. You select your choice of up to 13 meals each week, in any combination, including a few extras such as a fruit basket or smoothies. Best of all, most of the meals can be prepared in under 30 minutes!
We tried out our first shipment this week and it was a perfect time to try them out given the fact that it might possibly have been the busiest week we’ve had in a while, so I was pretty critical about making sure they truly delivered on their promise of making home cooking easy. Here were the top 5 things I found and loved about Home Chef that I’m positive any busy mom like me can truly appreciate:
Simple meals for even the most novice chefs
We’ve all heard the words “simple” and “easy” when it comes to describing meals, but in my experience, that’s so rarely the case. HomeChef meals gave us easy to follow directions and truly simple and sensible meals. When I say simple, I really mean it. No trying to multitask cooking chores like cutting, stirring, pouring, sifting etc. No complicated cooking techniques to master. Just an easy and quick meal that truth be told, even my husband could’ve done without me.
Like many kids, mine are not huge fans of really fancy, complex meals. They love tasty, but familiar foods and Home Chef gave us just that.
3 words: One Pot Meals
There aren’t very many things I hate more than dishes, so when I looked at my recipe instructions and saw that I could cook almost the entire meal in the same pot, I was ecstatic! Plus, since all of the ingredients are pre-measured, you don’t have to worry about measuring cups and things like that.
Dietary Preferences and Taste Profiles
When you select your meal preferences, you get to indicate any dietary preferences, including vegetarian, gluten-free, low-carb, and low-calorie options. Additionally, you get to complete a taste profile, where you can specify your meat preferences and eliminate meals with ingredients your family dislikes or may be allergic to.
I loved this option when selecting my meals for the week. In addition to your meal selections, you can also add on things like a fresh fruit basket, smoothies, breakfast and a premium meal when needed.
You can sign up and select your meals at any time, with no contract or commitment. You can also change your number of deliveries each week, skip a week when needed, or cancel altogether with no penalty. Each serving costs only around $10 and realistically, you can get 2-3 meals for 2 for under $60/week.
